M&C Saatchi PR launches EE’s 4GEE Community Cinema Club

This summer, M&C Saatchi PR and EE have launched the 4GEE Community Cinema Club in partnership with BAFTA, a film series intended to bring the magic of outdoor cinema to rural communities around the UK!

The programme of events sees the 4GEE Community Cinema Club bring BAFTA-winning films to newly 4G-connected rural communities as EE continues to connect the unconnected with its 4G roll out. Each of the communities that took part were also given a 4GEE Community Cinema Kit, containing a 4G WiFi device, a state-of-the-art connected projector, wireless speakers and a movie streaming voucher so they could continue to host al fresco movie nights throughout the year.

As part of the campaign, film fans living anywhere from John O’Groats to Lands’ End were given the chance to win an exclusive screening this September as part of a competition offering. Five lucky runners up will also be sent one of the 4GEE Community Cinema Kits, containing everything needed to put on film screenings for their communities.

We kicked the series off with a cliff face screening in Cumbria, where Climbers at the Real Adventure Climbing Group enjoyed the first 4GEE Community Cinema Club screening, over 500 metres above sea level at Gimmer Crag in the Lake District.

 

Next stop, we took to the panoramic views of North Wales, where the local residents of Henllan were treated to an off road drive-in cinema experience courtesy of the 4GEE Community Cinema Club. The community gathered at the local microbrewery, pulling up in an array of off road vehicles to watch La La Land streamed over the EE 4G network. The local residents, who usually embark on a 20 mile round trip to the nearest cinema, tuned in to the FM transmitter and kicked back with a tub of popcorn from the comfort of their own car.

The third instalment took place at Mothecombe Beach in Devon – this location was chosen as EE had recently rolled out its superfast 4G network to the area. Local residents took their seats underneath the stars overlooking a stunning view of Mothecombe Beach to enjoy an outdoor screening of The Talented Mr Ripley, a classic film which was nominated in seven categories at the British Academy Film Awards in 2000 and saw Jude Law pick up the BAFTA for best supporting actor.

Moving swiftly on to the fourth screening, residents took their places beneath the stars overlooking a stunning backdrop of Great Bircham in Norfolk to enjoy another 4G-powered screening of The Talented Mr Ripley.

 

Our final screening is due to place this week, at Lews Castle in Stornoway, Scotland.
